Top researcher for physical layer radio channel modelling for 5G networks

The "WAVES" research group is the expertise center of the Department of Information Technology of Ghent University/IMEC in Belgium for physical-layer research of advanced wireless networks.

Function description

5G networks promise to increase the mobile data volume per geographical area a thousand times over 4G networks. Small cells, massive MIMO (multiple input, multiple output) and millimetre-wave communication technology will be able to supply the huge data rates for next-generation applications.

Important research domains in the context of 5G multi-service propagation for WAVES are:

  • 3D channel modelling using channel sounders, vehicles and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV)
  • Multi-link channel models accounting for link correlation and link interference.
  • 5G network planning and design accounting for power consumption restrictions
  • Impact of beamforming, (massive) MIMO, diversity techniques in 5G

Profile

We are looking for enthusiastic top candidates to perform research in the domains above in both national and international European projects. Candidates with a Master degree in Electrical engineering and Physics engineering qualify for this research job. Experience is not necessary but interest in wireless communications is a definite plus.
